You Can't Take All the Credit for Your Brilliance

Note: This article is one in series of twelve tips from Inspired Entrepreneur Nick Williams

Tip 12: You Can't Take All the Credit for Your Brilliance

“There is a Light in you which cannot die, Whose Presence is so holy that the world is sanctified because of you…. The Light in you is what the Universe longs to behold.” - From Lesson 156 of A Course in Miracles

But you can take the credit for showing up with it – your brilliance came with your creation. It was put within you by God, the Universe, Heaven or whatever you believe in, or if you don’t believe in a higher power, then it comes from the highest in your humanity. And you can take the credit for beating your resistance and showing up and sharing that brilliance. With God as the source of all creation, your job is simply to express that bit of creation that you are inspired to give form to.

Freedom project: What do you most want to show up with in this world? What gifts and activities give you most joy.

What Do You Really Love to Do?

Just about every Sunday, I stop by a local nursing home to spend time with my friend Jean’s 87 year old husband. Jean passed away last December and I honor our friendship by making sure her husband knows that his friends won’t forget about him now that Jean has passed. Every time I visit, I meet new friends….retired friends. I call them retired friends not elderly because I have 20, 30 and 40 year old friends who seem more elderly than my fun retired 80 year old friends.

Over the past few months while visiting Jean's husband, I have befriended a 60 year old woman named Susan who is legally blind, suffers from multiple sclerosis and is confined to a wheel chair. Earlier in her life, Susan was a singer, songwriter, playwright and taught English as a second language in Japan and the US.

Each Sunday when I visit, we all gather around the piano in the recreation area and sing songs from an earlier time. In spite of her physical challenges, Susan’s spirit shines brighter than most in the room. She’s always happy to see me and seems to enjoy our side chats. Because of her neurological challenges, she tends to repeat herself. She will say, “You know I love to sing," then ten minutes later, she'll make the same statement.

I respond, "I can see that..and you're good at it."

After we sing the song New York, New York, she'll blurt out, “You know what? I try to listen to people. Listening to people is very important.”

I agree with her knowing that in some way, the Universe is sending me a message through her because I get to hear that message at least five times before I leave. Consciousness helps clarity, so I wonder, Where in my life am I not listening enough?

After we finish singing Let Me Call You Sweetheart, Susan will turn to me and ask some simple but profound questions like, “What do you love to do? What makes your heart sing?”

Simple question right? Try to answer it. I often tell her, “I love to write.”

Not letting me get away with a superficial answer, she takes the question one step deeper, and says, “Don’t give me that. Everyone loves to write. What do you really love to do?”

I respond, “I love to write on my blog. I love when my writing leaves people better off than they were before. Making people feel good about themselves and their life is very satisfying.”

She responds, “See, that’s what I mean.”

By the time I leave the nursing home, she’s asked me the same question five times. No matter how many times she asks, I still have to think about it. For example, I’ve responded, “I love to walk on the beach.”

She’ll say, “So what. Everyone likes to walk on the beach. So what do you love about walking on the beach?”

She’s like Yoda in a wheel chair. She won’t let you off the hook until you have a deeper understanding of what you really love to do. Spiritual teachers come in many different packages when the student is ready.

After observing and talking with her for several weeks, I told her that she brings positive energy to everyone she encounters. She responds offhandedly, “I know that. That’s what I’m here for!”

Reiki - Something for Everyone

Reiki - Everyone should have it.

Yes, everyone should be attuned to Reiki. That was Dr. Mikao Usui’s dream when he rediscovered Reiki on his quest to find a hands-on healing service that did not drain the healer as kiko did. Kiko includes laying on of hands for healing through building up a supply of energy prior to applying hands to heal. It also used up all the energy that was generated.

In 1922 on Mt. Kurama in Japan, after a 21 fast, Dr. Usui was given the symbols and knowledge of Reiki. This hands-on healing did not drain the healer. The healer did not have to “build up a supply of energy” before giving a healing. The healer was the channel through which the energy came and was dispensed. This was a much better method and allowed the healer to work with many people over the course of a day or days.

Initially the training, the attunement, and the symbols were all kept secret. Nothing was written down. Everything was passed on through the oral tradition. Today you can find anything and everything you want to know about Reiki on the internet. Books have been published sharing all the information, including the symbols, for anyone to read and practice. The question becomes, can you become an actual Reiki practitioner by simply reading and doing?

The intention of attuning to Reiki is to physically receive the transfer of energy from the Divine, through the teacher to the student. The Reiki symbols are put into the energy field of the student allowing the student to experience the energy and work with it and through it. This is a sacred and traditional ceremony and should be done in person. Since Reiki can be sent over distances to heal, some practitioners have taken to “sending” the attunement at a designated date and time.

Although Dr. Usui believed that everyone should be attuned to Reiki, to be able to heal themselves and others through this process, he also believed in human contact in starting and developing the process. In our fast-paced, online, do-it-yourself world that human contact has been lost. It is my understanding that just as those who do the laying on of hands to heal without having been attuned and call it Reiki are not giving or receiving the full benefit and experience as those who truly have been attuned to Reiki in person and by a certified Reiki Master.

Can you truly get the quality of training and the true energy of Reiki by simply reading a book or taking online courses? Perhaps some people believe they can. Personally, those who I have taught appreciated the immediate response to having the human contact, the physical experience, and the opportunity to ask and receive clarity on what they are doing and feeling rather than trusting they’ve read it right.

Should you choose to become a Reiki practitioner and, as I stated above, that was and is the dream and goal of Dr. Usui, please consider receiving and learning in person. Don’t take the internet short-cut. Reiki is offered at so many different venues. I learned and continue to teach through Adult Education along with private sessions. Take the time. Do it right.

8 Steps to Discover Your Subpersonalities: How Do We Heal Them? Part 3

How Do We Heal Subpersonalities?

In part 1, I related my experience of receiving healing for one of my subpersonalities.
In part 2, I described a meditation for beginning discovering your subpersonalities.
In part 3, I now show how an Energy Healer, familiar with subpersonalities can assist you in healing.

Have you ever felt a childlike vulnerability or experienced a critical voice dominating your thoughts? Do you have a pattern which takes over your life like being an over achiever, a caretaker, a rebel or feeling insecure? Welcome to some of your subpersonalities.

We create subpersonalities to handle trauma in childhood. Parts of our identity fragment – split off. When a situation or person emotionally triggers us, we react emotionally as the trauma reemerges. Then a subpersonality takes charge and runs our life.

Many different sub selves/subpersonalities live within each of us. Each has its own feelings, moods, and needs. They form at different ages as a result of childhood trauma to protect us. We all know people who have characteristic moods and patterns that keep recurring over and over. These patterns cut off healthy communication and prevent conflict resolution in relationships.

Each subpersonality diminishes our true identify – our inner center of being, purpose, and strength – beyond any outer images or subpersonalities.

The spiritual avatar of Awakening into Oneness, Amma Bhagavan, of the Oneness University in India says, Most people have at least ten subpersonalities. Our passage into Spiritual Awakening requires bringing all our subpersonalities into one – the God within Us.

The following describes one method of receiving assistance healing subpersonalities as used by a Core Energetic Healer, Lyn O’Hara with her clients. Other energy healers may be interested in this method.

Lyn acts as a facilitator holding a strong focus of energy in alignment with the Divine/God. She asks certain questions to guide you through emotional challenges or fears as they emerge. You as the client always have the choice and power to take the next step through the challenges that have limited you in the past.

Note: Understand the following steps only give somewhat of a road map. Describing healing a subpersonality can’t be done well through words or mental understanding. The Divine goes the healing. It needs to be experienced and differs for each individual and for each healing session.

You may choose to be guided through the following steps with the assistance of Lyn or another professional healer.

You may feel unhappy about some issue in your life, e.g., relationships, work, limited finances etc.

Step 1 – Feel the subpersonality. Remember a time when you experienced a strong emotional reaction. Feel the intensity of that emotion. You may also after going through steps 2 and 3 proceed to step 4 rather than starting with step 1.

Step 2 – Connect with your heart chakra in the center of your chest.

Step 3 – Inwardly call forth your God Self – the spark of God within your heart chakra. Breathe in an alignment with your God Self – for instance the peace in your heart.

Step 4 - Imagine looking from this alignment in your heart. See where in your body you feel the limitation in your life or feel depressed, angry, helpless, or abandoned etc. This feeling, if it has repeated over and over in your life, connects to a subpersonality.

Next week, I will give the remaining 4 steps to healing your subpersonalities.

Wishes Fulfilled - Oprah's Super Soul Sunday Discussion with Wayne Dyer

During Oprah's Super Soul Sunday program, she had an outdoor discussion in Maui with Wayne Dyer, author of the new book Wishes Fulfilled Mastering the The Art of Manifesting. During Oprah's Super Soul Sunday discussion, Wayne Dyer talked about the difference between the Law of Attraction and Manifesting. He said the difference is that, "You must be in alignment with your source in order to attract what you want."

Alignment with your Source?? Hmmmm... Does anyone know what that really means? I'm always looking for ways to make spirituality practical on my blog. Not all of us can sit on an island or mountain top meditating about world peace all day. We have to sit in traffic, grocery shop and get projects done on time all while trying to manifest a better life.

So, how do you "Align with Source?" Pray? Not according to Wayne Dyer. When we pray for something, we acknowledge that we don't have it in our lives therefore the Universe will keep giving us more of not having it.

Most spiritual teachers like Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra tell us that we connect with our Source in the stillness of our thoughts. We can do this through meditation, being in nature, playing with our pets, just sitting quietly and emptying our thoughts. In the silence, we align with Source. Our thoughts are quiet therefore, there is no room for fear. If you are in fear, you are not aligning with Source energy which is Love. The more we align with Source, as Oprah and Wayne mentioned, the easier things seem to flow in our life. Deepak Chopra has always talked about getting downloads during a period of silence. It's where God or Source Energy talks to us and gives us instructions on what we need to do next. Only, we don't usually hear a booming voice, although it can happen. We get energetic instructions.

When we come off the beach, out of meditation, or just open our eyes after a few moments of stillness, we usually feel refreshed and our energy is clearer helping us to make better decisions and attract that which mirrors our new and improved peaceful state of being. Sitting still and getting quiet is an easy and a practical way to align with Source in order to start manifesting something better in your life.

Try a practical exercise for one week. Each day, get quiet (on purpose) for 15 minutes each day. See if that doesn't shift the boat around in your life from turbulent to something more flowing. I know that when I do it, things flow in and out of my life more smoothly. When I don't, the boat starts to rock. I'm going to do it with you, because I have a few wishes I need fulfilled right about now.

Try Aligning with Source, as Oprah and Wayne suggest and report back and let me know when (not if) your wishes got fulfilled.

Thank you to Oprah for giving us quality programming.

People With Passion Lady Gaga Interview with Oprah

Lady Gaga opened her heart and home to Oprah Winfrey in a recent interview.

She wasn't always a “Super Star”. She was once a kid, who was bullied. She talks about being thrown in a trash can, about ugly graffiti on her locker and how these experiences scarred her deeply.

Now 25 and a “Super Star”, she is embracing her beauty and exposing herself on the World Stage with a powerful message, “I'm on the right track baby, I was born this way”.

Why is her message so powerful ?

One look at this Youtube clip will help you understand.

She is a woman with a purpose and a passion to inspire young people to feel okay, to love themselves to believe they are enough. She was crowned 'twitter queen' by her fans or ”little monsters” as they are called and in her inaugural message, she said, “Just remember that I love you and love yourself."

Her message is powerful because she has been in that trash can. She knows that feeling good is difficult when the world around you is cruel. She came through this to do what she was meant to do. Now she is a spokeswoman for her “beautiful little monsters” and has just launched a foundation to promote individuality, http://bornthiswayfoundation.org/live.

Lady Gaga's mom was also present for the interview. Oprah asked her what she would like the world to know about her daughter. She answered that she would like the world to know that her daughter is a thinking, feeling human, just like the rest of us.

I think we know that she is like the rest of us and that's why she gives us hope. Her desire to be able to express herself without judgement is what we all want. Her 'judgement scars' can be heard loud and raw in her music. She has left these scars open so we can heal with her.

She has transformed pain into passion. If Lady Gaga can do it then maybe we all can !

A Simple Tool for Your Toolbox

As we get older, one of the things we must face are more trips to a hospital for any variety of reasons. This happened to me recently when I went in for arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn cartilage brought on by years of skiing. After a vacation this past September to Orlando’s amusement centers and St. Petersburg, Florida, I could barely walk.

Certainly there’s stress involved with any type of procedure, but I’m going to give you a simple tool you can use not only in serious circumstances, but for ANY situation, no matter how mundane for the rest of your life. It is requesting Most Benevolent Outcomes (MBO’s) each time you go anywhere or do anything.

As an example, before I left for the hospital I said out loud, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for my drive to the hospital, thank you!”

Now I believe that my own Guardian Angel handled that request, but you can believe the request is going to God, Allah, Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, Vishnu, or any other deity. It does not matter, because IT WORKS!

Before the surgery I said, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for this surgery, and may the results be even better than I can hope for or expect, thank you!”

You’ll find a calmness comes over you, and it tremendously lowers the stress and fear factors. I was so calm for this surgery I dozed off waiting for the doctor in the pre-op room. I also said what I call a Benevolent Prayer for the doctors and nurses to perform the operation perfectly. It went well and in the recovery room I even serenaded the nurses with a couple of oldies.

I requested a MBO when I started rehab, and was assigned the most experienced physical therapist at the facility.

In 2006, I was scheduled to travel to Houston, Texas to give a talk about my first book, but I had a nagging cough, and went to my doctor to have him prescribe an inhaler. He checked me over and said, “Tom, I’m not going to prescribe the inhaler, you have congestive heart failure and you’re going downstairs and check yourself into the hospital.”

I replied, “Well I’m glad I wore my clean undies today Doc!”

Naturally I requested a MBO for the heart problem. They first tried to shock my heart back into normal rhythm, but on awakening they said it didn’t work. I didn’t worry, as I KNEW something better was on the way. They brought in an electro-cardiologist and he did an ablation procedure to bring the heart back to normal rhythm, and a year later he performed another one that allowed me off all my heart medications.

These requests work quite simply. When you request a Benevolent Outcome, you’re saying you would like a specific outcome, but that benevolent being on the other side knows what’s in your best short term and long term interests, so you’re turning the request over to that spiritual entity.

If you ever watched THE SECRET movie, this simple tool is better than any modality presented in the film. One lady wrote to me and said The Law of Attraction was like driving an old Ford Pinto and requesting MBO’s was like driving a Ferrari—both may get you there but the Ferrari will get you there a lot faster!

I’ve requested 15,000 or more MBO’s in the last 15 years, so I can say they work PERFECTLY, even when at first it does not seem so. Months later, you’ll see something better come along. You can request Benevolent Outcomes for the perfect job for you, the perfect home for you, and even the perfect mate for you! You can request them in business situations and even when you feel in danger. But I do recommend starting with the mundane requests, such as a parking space in front of a busy restaurant or store, your drives to work or the mall, a seat on a bus or train, and around town.

This achieves two things: First you will build up a trust that this actually works for you, and secondly it will get you in the habit of requesting MBO’s, so that when some emergency or very serious event happens in your life, the first thing you’ll do is the request a MBO.

Have fun experimenting with requesting MBO’s. This will change your life for the better, and will make the rest of your years much less stressful and more successful!

Fair Play To Those Who Dare To Dream

Not my words but the words of 19 year old Marketa Irglova back in 2008 when she accepted an Oscar with her partner Glen Hansard for best original song, Falling Slowly.

The Swell Season is a documentary that goes on tour with Marketa and Glen from 2007 to 2010. Here, Glen explains that at thirteen, he swapped the classroom for the streets of Ireland to busk.

“From then on I was completely on my path”, he said.

He had dared to dream and in this documentary, we get to walk the hills and valleys with him and Marketa.

At the beginning, Glen reflects on where he is now with disbelief. He talks about meeting a fan that had Fair Play to Those Who Dare To Dream tatooed on his arm and even before he sings a note, the crowds are already cheering.

He explains that success for him is like kicking your ball and it goes farther than you ever expected, which is both thrilling and frightening at the same time. His mom, sitting at home holding his Oscar, says it best when she says, “Imagine that”.

When I think of playing ball as a kid, I remember being afraid of the ball. I remember not wanting it to come to me, expecting failure. I also fantasied that when it would come to me, I would run so far with it that nobody would be able to catch me and somehow I would win the game.

During the documentary, we see Glen sitting with his Dad and talking about his Dad's dream. In his youth his Dad had been a champion boxer and had offers to go to America. Then he met Glen's mom and she became pregnant.

They asked him why he didn't take his opportunity, Was he afraid ?

He said, “No, no, I was fuckin' hugely confident at the game, in the boxing game ... but I was lost every other way."

A blank stare was all that was left of this lost dream. He had dared to dream but instead decided to drink and took his dream to the grave with him. When Glen won the Oscar he had said, “Fuck it, he's done it for me."

With an Oscar and concerts all over the world, Glen is a huge success. This success is like a cross that he carries for his Dad, his neighbours and for all those people that gave up on their dreams. Glen feels expectation as a “white terrifying panic” and says he is “fucking close to being in a really dark weird place”.

Two fans, a girlfriend and boyfriend had written Glen and Marketa on their hands pretending they were them. As the camera rolled, they became uncomfortable and said that they weren't, "pretending," they were just "laughing about it."

In the end, it is clear that success is a heavy load not only for Glen but also for his relationship with Marketa. She can't understand him and tells him that she couldn't live like he does, replacing struggles. She asks him, "Would you not just stop struggling all the time?” Then reminds him, “You wanted this, you can't say you didn't want this and now you're rejecting it."

Marketa decides that she wants to go her own way, form her own opinions about life and for “that to be okay.”The end of their romantic dream fuels more songs.

Daring to dream takes courage. Courage isn't about wholeness, it's about desire. We have to want to line up for our ball. It's not about being ready. Following our dreams and reaching success also has it's pain but if we don't decide our dreams are important enough, they will fester in us, die with us and burden others.

Each and everyone of us knows where our dreams live. Daring to dream is daring to live.

You Are the Custodian of Projects and Gifts

Note: This article is one in series of twelve tips from Inspired Entrepreneur Nick Williams

Tip 11: You are the Custodian of Projects and Gifts

Among us, there are people who can turn old plastics into jewellery, teach children to cook, inspire an MP, design sustainable homes, chair community meetings, give healing massages, forage for wild food, create powerful film documentaries, write songs and make clothes. When we hold back our contribution, our community suffers. We deprive our community, just as we deprive ourselves of the pleasure of offering our gift.” - Corinna Gordon Barnes, Coach

You are here to bring love, gifts, creativity, beauty and transformation into existence in this world. They won’t exist until you show up. It can sound grandiose, but is literally true. You promised to do this. Will you make good on your promise?

Think about the many people who have touched your life, inspired, encouraged and supported you. What if they hadn’t shown up? Might you have given up? Might your life be poorer? Of course, it would. In the same way, you hold the key to other people’s success, inspiration and hope.

The world needs what you’ve got inside you. Heaven has full confidence in your creative gifts and your ability – trust heaven not your ego.

Freedom project: Ask yourself what were you made for and what gifts and activities give you most joy.
