Living On Purpose Oprah's Life Class Tour Discussion

Bishop TD Jakes joined Oprah onstage in St. Louis for Oprah's Life Class Tour. They talked about finding and living your life's purpose. Oprah said that her life purpose was to "live in such a way that people would see and know that God is working through me." She told the audience around the world that her "cup runneth over with blessings" which she wanted to share with everyone. She also said that she wanted everyone to have everything they wanted in life.

The purpose of this life class was to point you in the direction of your life purpose so you could "live the highest and best expression of yourself." Oprah said that when you were finished with this life, you'll know you will have completed what you came here to do.

Oprah said that when you tap into your life purpose, "the damn breaks and your life flows."  She says that everyone has a calling.

Many people ask, How do I find my calling? Oprah says, "Let your passion lead you to your purpose."

How do you know what your passionate about? A good indication is something you do where you lose track of time while you're doing it. You're so engrossed in the activity, time flies by. That's your passion.

Both TD Jakes and Oprah repeatedly said that when you move in the direction of your passion, the universe opens up opportunities for you to move your life forward.

Some people asked, What if I don't have a passion? They suggested that you're in transition and you need to get out and be of service. You need to join groups and speak with like minded people. When you get out of your rut by meeting people and getting involved, your passion will resurface for you.

TD Jakes talked about the adversities in our life and not giving up. He said, the more difficult the adversity, the greater the opportunity to be motivated to pursue your passion. He gave an example of a bow and arrow. Adversity is like pulling the arrow all the way back. The rougher the adversity is, the farther you're pulling the arrow back. Eventually, you let it go and it hits its target with intensity. The more pull you had, the more energy behind the bow reaching its intended target. TD Jakes said, "Through adversity your strength and resilience is developed."

He said that many people are pushed into a purpose that doesn't really belong to them. Perhaps an opportunity arose where their help was needed and they became imprisoned in that role when it really wasn't meant to be a long term arrangement. He said some people confuse talent with purpose. He gave the example of himself having some talent playing the piano. He can play but it's not really his purpose.

He taught everyone that passion and purpose are partners. If he had a passion and the talent for playing the piano perhaps that would have been his purpose, but he doesn't. Playing the piano was not his calling. Changing people's lives with his ministry is his passion. As a result of following that passion, his life flows in ways he never could have dreamed of when he was first starting out, broke and hopeful. He said, "Don't stop at where you are as if it's a destination. It may be only the transportation for getting you to your life's purpose. Where you are is the launching pad into the next phase of your life."

How do you know when you are fulfilling your life purpose? TD Jakes says when God is wooing you. There's an inner knowing.

How am I going to make money and support myself if I follow my passion?? People always worry that they won't be able to support themselves financially if they follow their passion.  TD Jake says, "When you're not following your passion, you chase your provision. When you follow your passion, your provision chases you."

Great line. How many people do we know who are sought after for their gifts whether they're accountants, doctors, psychics, military professionals, professors or authors?? These are people living their life purpose. When your provision (money) chases you and you have a passion for what you do, it's a good sign that you're living on purpose.
