Tip 8: Recognise that the work you are most likely to resist is the work you were put on this planet to do.
“Is it that rational and logical that anybody should feel afraid of what they were put on this earth to do? And what is it about creative ventures that make us worry for each other’s mental health?” -Elizabeth Gilbert, Author of Eat Pray Love
It’s strange but true that in my 20 years of personal and professional experience, the closer you get to your life’s work, your spiritual purpose, the work you were born to do, the more likely resistance is to kick in.
Unless it is your spiritual destiny to be a telemarketer or work on supermarket check-out (which it could be), you are likely to experience resistance.
When you do a job in an organisation, resistance doesn’t surface that much. Reluctance yes, but not resistance. But if you want to write the book that has been incubating in your heart for years, quit your high paid but unfulfilling corporate job. Start the enterprise that you have been planning every day and on every holiday. Or start that blog to share your intimate thoughts to inspire and support your fellow human beings, then you will likely, but not inevitably, experience resistance.
Freedom project: Recognise the bigger the fear, the bigger the gift. The thing you most resist could well be your purpose, the thing that will most fulfil you as you start doing it.
