Once again, Oprah's Life Class hit a home run. When you say the words, "Your Calling," doesn't your spirit perk up just a little bit? Everyone I know wants to know their Calling with a capital C. I can't tell you how many discussions I've had with very intelligent friends who are trying to figure out their Calling. Most people are searching for it, but only a few have really found it. It's like buried treasure. We are thankful for those like Oprah and a few of her friends, who are willing to share their secret Calling sauce with the rest of us.
In Oprah's Life Class, she said that "Everyone has a Calling. If you don't know your Calling, your job is to find it. She showed us plenty of examples of people who found their Calling including Lady Gaga, Jeff Bezos of Amazon and a few not so famous people. It was helpful to see their process of trying to figure it out. Once they did, amazing things started to happen for them.
Here are some notes I took in Oprah's Life Lesson Class:
NOTE 1: Doing what you don't want to do is an example of messaging, and opens up the path to what you do want to do. If you are in a job that doesn't stimulate you, gets you excited in morning, or doesn't make you feel good about doing it, it's a sign that you need to find little pieces of your life that bring you joy. Use those pieces to move you in the right direction. What you love to do feeds you and expands your life.
NOTE 2: A Calling is something you FEEL. It's something you enjoy. It's something that you love to do that makes you feel alive. She didn't say this but I thought this could be equally true for finding the right partner to spend your life with.
NOTE: 3 When Oprah was a 6 o'clock news reporter, she was suddenly pulled off the air--demoted. She was devastated. She identified herself with the role, even though she was never comfortable in it. Because she was no longer doing what she didn't enjoy, she was available for a unique opportunity to do something she would enjoy. An opportunity opened up for a new local daytime talk show. Because she was available, the network decided to try her out. The rest is history. If she wasn't demoted/fired, she would never have become the success she is today. As Steve Jobs said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward. Only backward."
NOTE 4: Doing what you don't want to do, leads you to what you do want to do. Move in the direction of what FEELS right. Move away from what doesn't FEEL right.
NOTE 5: Use your life to serve the world. Ask the Universe/God, "How can I be of service?" Your life Calling is always about being of service to the world.
NOTE 6: You are here to honor your Calling whether it's something you get paid for or not. Eventually, you might be paid for it. Your Calling is something you must do...something you enjoy doing...whether you're making money or not. The positive energy you FEEL feeds and expands everything in your life. When you honor that FEELING, you come alive!
NOTE 7: If there's something you care passionately about, trust that others will also.
NOTE 8: Follow each footstep that leads you on the path to what you love.
NOTE 9: You must be AWAKE to find your Calling. You must pay attention to the what your heart is telling you. If something feels good, stick with it. If it doesn't feel right, move in a different direction.
Oprah's Life Class series is amazing. I highly recommend everyone watch or tape the program. It's an opportunity to spend time checking in with yourself.
