Breaking Out the Top Shelf Advice for Rough Times

*In 2007, my friend Arvind was out of work and looking for some advice knowing that I write about spiritual metaphysical topics. Here’s the article I wrote for him. I hope it helps others. By the way, Arvind did land that new job shortly after and thanks me every time I talk to him. He now meditates more than I do and he’s happier than I’ve ever seen him. Last night on the phone he said, "I get more phone calls for job opportunities than I've ever gotten in the past!"  It works.

My friend Arvind called today while I was working on my article for the week. He’s been out of work for several months and getting a little (a lot) nervous about paying the bills. A common story these days. The company you work for is scooped up by a larger company, and your job disappears. You apply for unemployment and go on interview after interview with no offer. You look at yourself in the mirror and wonder if you have two heads or something. Then, you find yourself two checks away from the end of your unemployment benefits and you start hyperventilating. My friend was at this point when I got the call today.

I tried my vewy best to ‘splain some of the tricks I use to turn things around, but I find writing is my best form of communicating. So now, I refer my friend to the ideas of some of my other best friends (books combined with real life experience) to pass on the best advice I know that actually works. There’s plenty of advice out there that sounds great, but when you’re in a transition (I hate the word crisis), you need the Top Shelf advice—the good stuff. Here’s what’s on my Top Shelf:

Prepare a List of Financial Obligations

Set up a spreadsheet and KNOW what financial obligations you have, but don’t put a lot of energy behind it. Do it in a detached manner. It’s important to be responsible and know what you owe (intellectually) but don’t put emotional energy behind the list. Burying the bills under the bed makes you worry more. Best to put them on the table and give the Universe the exact dollar amount you expect it to flow your way. Set aside an appointment for yourself weekly to update the list.

Ask Spirit and Source Energy for Assistance

Do what Sonia Choquette would recommend in her book, Trust Your Vibes. Ask your spirit friends for assistance in getting these financial obligations taken care of. Spirit is always willing to help. You must ask for their assistance. I have written about my positive experiences with spirit assistance in my life in previous columns. It works!

Acknowledge the Issue Intellectually but ask God or Source Energy for Assistance

In the best book he has ever written, There is a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “Personally, whenever I find myself stuck in a problem area I go to a quiet place, away from all distractions, and ask God to guide me in the direction of a solution. I do not ask God to do it for me, since I know that I am never separate from this divine source. The act of asking is a form of letting go of the ego and accessing the highest spiritual guidance.” I have done the same with good results. There absolutely is a spiritual solution to every problem.

Meditate and Clear Your Mind and Energy from Resistance Thoughts

Resistance thoughts attract resistance events…you don’t get the job; the money doesn’t show up; your partner complains that you’re not doing enough to find a job. Before you go into meditation, INTEND that you will get a call for a new job opportunity. Say to yourself, “Every time I go into meditation, I always get a call about a new job opportunity or I receive a job offer!” You may be surprised to see the phone start ringing or the emails start coming in once your mind is cleared from resistance energy. I can’t guarantee that you’ll get a job offer while in meditation, but I do get opportunities flowing my way when I intend before I meditate.

Go on a Rampage of Appreciation

In, Ask and it is Given, Esther and Jerry Hicks recommend that when you need to raise your vibration to attract what you want into your life, go on a Rampage of Appreciation. Say out loud, “Thank you for the roof over my head today. I appreciate my great friends, neighbors and family. Thank you for the money in my bank account today, the food on my table, and the oil in my tank. I thank the Universe for the new job that is on its way. I appreciate my electricity, phone and cable that is always on and working for me, etc, etc.” Say it with strong feeling and conviction. All thoughts must accompany strong emotion for the vibration to change. After doing this, you should be feeling more joyful and less nervous. It has an immediate calming effect for me, and it puts my good feeling vibration out into the quantum field to allow it to negotiate more of the same for me.

“Something Always Happens”

When resistance thoughts try to rear their ugly head, say out loud, “Something Always Happens. The money shows up. I get the job. I never have to worry. In the past when this has happened, something always happens and things turn out fine.” I love this saying. I heard it while listening to Esther and Jerry Hicks on their Hay House Radio show. A woman in the audience was asking Abraham how to get a certain customer in her small business to pay a large receivable outstanding. Her business was having financial trouble, and she was afraid she wasn’t going to make payroll. The woman said that if only this one customer would pay their bill, things would be better. Abraham asked what happened in the past when things were tight, and they had to make payroll. The woman said, “Something always happens, and I have just enough money to make it for the week.” Abraham told her that every time she was worried that there wouldn’t be enough money say, “Something always happens. I always find the money. It always shows up without fail and I’m able to pay the bills.” I love that saying. When that little worry voice pops up in your head, stop it in its tracks and say out loud (more powerful that way), “SOMETHING ALWAYS HAPPENS! I ALWAYS FIND A WAY!” Energetically, you are putting that into the quantum energy field, and the Universe will respond by finding a way for you to pay the bills. Expect and watch for the solution to present itself. I have had this happen when a big unexpected bill came my way. I found a way to pay it, as I expected to.

Find Your Path of Least Resistance

While you are waiting for that big job offer, big check, big contract to get signed, do something you enjoy instead of sitting around worrying. I enjoy taking a walk on the beach as often as I can. If you don’t have a beach nearby, put on some 70’s music and dance in the living room. Go to the public library and read your favorite magazines or check out a few new books—all for free. It’s a great way to escape for a few hours and you can feel good that you’re saving the environment by not buying all those magazines. In the book, Ask and It is Given, Abraham states, “The longer you focus upon the things that feel good to you, the easier it is for you to maintain those vibrational frequencies that feel good. And the more you maintain these good-feeling frequencies, the more the Law of Attraction will deliver to you other thoughts, experiences, people, and things that match your practiced vibration.”

Your Path of Least Resistance is a thought or action matched with feeling good. The energy flows, therefore your life can start flowing. Worrying is a resistance energy which does not allow things to flow into your life. You will come up with obstacle after obstacle if you’re always seeing what is wrong with your lot in life. Go window shopping for something you love or take your elderly neighbor to lunch. Like meditation, I have experienced an increase in opportunities when I’m out having fun enjoying my path of least resistance.

While in Energy Rehab, No CNN!

I would recommend not watching the evening news for a while. There’s nothing like stories about war, the presidential election, food fights and the mortgage melt down to send the high vibration you worked so hard for, down the toilet. Watch reruns of I Love Lucy on the TV Land station at 6 PM. I Love Lucy is a no-fail way to raise your vibration any ole time. I must have seen reruns of I Love Lucy a million times and I still laugh!

Intend to Start Your New Job on Monday

“To access a Spiritual Solution to a problem involves focusing on the idea of a solution.” -Dr. Wayne Dyer

Dr. Wayne Dyer calls it a “hardening of the will,” or “Having a passion for what you would like to attract into your life to resolve your problems.” I use my own little saying, “I intend to start my new job on Monday,” or I say, “The offer letter is coming in today.” By putting my intension into the quantum soup of the universe, my strong, directed vibration can negotiate for what I want in the invisible world of energy. Greg Braden, the author of, The Divine Matrix, in a recent Hay House Radio seminar about applying the concepts of quantum physics in your daily life, said, “Expect it, and it will be there.” He calls this Participatory Observation. You, as the observer have the ability to affect the outcome of your choice.

Now that you’re drunk with great advice, start practicing these Top Shelf ideas from some of the best and brightest spiritual minds of our century to keep your life on track and the abundance flowing.
